Europe buys more than the US
The US is the largest single market, but Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Poland and France together bought about $505m of Pakistani textiles in September, more than the US's $449m. The UK added another $164m. For Spain, textiles are 91% of everything it buys from Pakistan.
Three-month view
| Month | Textiles & clothing | Share of exports | To the US (approx.) |
|---|---|---|---|
| July 2026 | $1.71bn | 59.5% | ~$493m |
| August 2026 | $1.74bn | 58.1% | ~$523m |
| September 2026 | $1.65bn | 54.5% | ~$449m |
Textile exports dipped 4.9% in September, with knitwear ($510m to $471m) and woven clothing ($413m to $384m) both lower than in August. Their share of exports also fell because rice exports jumped 73% the same month. Home textiles held up better, at $505m, $529m and $518m.
Two kinds of buyers: finished goods vs inputs
Western buyers take finished goods such as linen, jeans, knitwear and socks. Asian buyers take inputs for their own factories. China bought 75.9% of Pakistan's cotton yarn exports ($59.6m), and Bangladesh took 55.9% of heavy cotton fabric, which includes denim ($37.7m). That's why textiles are only 19% of exports to China but more than 75% of exports to most Western markets.
